CSD to Flush Water Main Lines

RANCHO MURIETA COMMUNITY SERVICES DISTRICT
NOTICE OF MAIN LINE FLUSHING

The water system pipelines are being flushed from June 6 – 24, 2019.

Standard preventative maintenance practices require that a system’s domestic water valves be operated and pipes thoroughly flushed periodically to ensure that potable water of acceptable quality is being delivered. Flushing removes scale and other corrosion related debris from potable water distribution lines as well as bringing in fresh water with more chlorine residual into areas of low water demand. This helps to improve the aesthetic quality of the water and maintain chlorine disinfection residuals.
In the process of cycling water valves open and closed, the water being flushed through the pipelines may become discolored by particles of sediment from within the pipelines, typically iron, which we are attempting to remove. Occasionally, some of the sediment may enter a customer’s service pipe; however, this water is still safe for consumption and is only aesthetically unpalatable. If this occurs, run your cold water taps until the water clears. Do not wash white clothing until your water clears up and do not use bleach as it may set iron into clothing.
Every effort will be made to prevent sediment or discolored water from entering your water service lines. These efforts will include flushing at night, as well as during the early hours of the morning.
Thank you for your anticipated cooperation. If you have any questions or experience any problems, please call the District Office at 354-3700.
The final result of this maintenance work will be a better water product for district customers.
HYDRANT FLUSHING
A hydrant testing and flushing program is very important to the maintenance of a domestic
water distribution system. Each year, water technicians may systematically open hydrants
throughout the District to gauge flows and to allow water to flow at a high velocity through
the distribution main lines.
Flushing involves the sequential closing of water valve in order to maximize water flow
velocity to create a pipe scouring effect.
Regular flushing serves the following purposes:
• Enhances long term water quality by removing sediments from inside the
mainline and flushing them out through the hydrant.
• Identifies malfunctions of the hydrant and related valve issues that may need to
be addressed.
Other systems must do it too.

Brown Water

Had brown water before seeing the notice......... called CSD and they came out to our house (2Park Terreno) ....and spent 30 minutes flushing the line into our house.   Word was that lakes were “turned over “ when they pumped water from the river and had problems throughout the community.

All is good now!

Terreno yellow/brown water

Frank, we're above you on Terreno @ Anillo.  Filled the bath last night and it was a yellow green.  Filled it again and it was a yucky yellow brown.  We ran all the faucets for a good 15 minutes.  Unfortunately still a yellow brown this morning.

Bad water returns

Beth

See my update on RM Nextdoor......it was good for a day but now bad ....need to fill the tub to see the full effect.

Just spent time flushing the hot water heater......waste of effort and water if they are still sending us bad color water.

Dirty Water

I sure am glad we put in a whole house filtration system when I moved in.  That's a 4-6 week old pre-filter on the left.  Notice the slim on the finger of the glove.  I made the mistake of touching it with my bare hands first.  There was more sediment in the cartridge than I have seen since it was installed in 2005.  I can't imagine what that would do to plumbing and fixtures if it made it into my house.  We're on Via Sereno.  If anyone is interested here's a link. I have the whole house version.  https://www.aquasana.com/?discountcode=LIVEHEALTHY&msclkid=fe8786e144f31...(Exact)&utm_term=aquasana%20waterfilters&utm_content=Aquasana%20-%20Filters%20-%20Water

Yellow Water

I find it interesting that none of us recieved any notification prior to CSD flushing the waster system pipelines; not good customer service.  I have read the email that was sent out Friday, 6/14 regarding the safety of our water.  Are we to take this for the truth?  Does anyone know of or is connected to an agency that could do an independant, complete evaluation of our water?  We have all heard stories about water agencies covering up the real risks of tainted water throughout the country for years.  As for me and my family, we will be drinking and cooking with bottled water until our water runs clean.
