Criss-Cross for game and weather

The weather, again, impacted our field in more ways than one.  Just 32 ladies of 58 sign-ups, took the tee in the weekly Rancho Murieta Women’s Golf Tuesday game on March 3rd.  But only 27 finished enough holes to “play the game”.  In Criss-Cross, the golfer needs only to count the best score from either the front nine or back nine for holes one through nine. By counting the best of either hole one or ten, two or eleven, etc., the “best nine” is determined, with an adjustment for handicaps.  The true heroines, were the 11 ladies who persevered about seven weather changes to finish all 18 holes, and their scores were also part of a Low Gross/ Low Net game.  The conditions were dry for some starters, a spritz for others, and a light rain, wind and calm alternated during the morning round.

The First Flight winners, beginning with first place to the most steady player on Tuesday, Connie Heimbecker, with a best nine score of 31.5.  Sunny Robinson was second with 31.5, Kimiko Pumilia placed third (33.5), and Jean Paik claimed fourth place with 33.5.

The Second Flight winners included, Judy Leezer, one of our newest members with a first place 32; Bev Carr-Barrow, second place with 32.5; Masako Matano, third with 33; and Soon Lee in fourth place at 34.

The Third Flight champ was Patricia Favero (31.5), with a tie-breaker to determine second place to Marilyn Moore and third place to Jennifer Kelln with scores of 36.5.  Stacia Matheny placed fourth with a 37.5.

In the Closest-to-the-Pin Competition, Hole Four provided the most play, but Judy Leezer took the top honor at only three feet, four inches from the cup.  Second and Third places were close, with Joan Lake besting Connie Heimbecker, each at over 28 feet.   And, Hole 15, barely played by the field, showed the only one to hit the green was Joan Lake at 16 feet, five inches to the left of the flag.

All the players who “suited up” are to be commended, in these inclement conditions.  As the weather improves, the best golf is yet to come.
