CSD invites applications to fill empty board seat

Published Monday, March 12, 2007

The Community Services District has announced the procedure it will follow to appoint a director to the five-member board to replace Director Bill White.

To be considered for the position, applicants must submit a letter of interest with answers to four questions by March 31. The procedure and the questions are available here.

The four current members of the board – Bobbi Belton, Bob Kjome, Wayne Kuntz and Dick Taylor -- will conduct a public meeting Monday, April 16, at 6:30 p.m. in the CSD board room to appoint a new director.

The board decided on the procedure Wednesday at a special meeting after formal consideration of alternatives that included having the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors make the appointment, waiting for the 2008 general election or holding a special election at an estimated cost of $35,000.

CSD legal counsel Steve Rudolph said there was latitude in the approval process to appoint a director who had the board’s support without soliciting candidates. He used another board’s selection of the next highest vote-getter in an election as an example of this option. Kjome said he preferred to have candidates declare their interest and answer questions posed by board members before making a selection. The other directors agreed with this approach and each contributed a question for the letter of interest.

White resigned for personal reasons Feb. 28. His term expires at the end of 2008.
