THEATER
MAGIC

(August
7) Once the sun went down and a breeze came up, Lake
Clementia Amphitheater became the coolest place to be
Saturday night as "Marcia Cope-Hart and Friends"
put the theater in Entertainment, Theatre and Culture's
concert season with a condensed version of the beloved
musical "The King and I." Fifteen children
joined resident Cope-Hart and her friends Eugene Chan
and Dennis Yep onstage to perform the story of a Victorian
Englishwoman who goes to Siam to teach the king's many
children. Cope-Hart's daughter, Haleyann, played the
Englishwoman's son. The show brought cheers and calls
of "Beautiful! Beautiful!" from an audience
of about 300. Cope-Hart and Chan sang Broadway selections
to complete the evening, and keyboardist Parmys Weinberg
was a hit with a rendition of her own composition, "Sacramento."
