JUMPIN'
CLEMENTIA

(August
8) Little
Charlie and the Nightcats put on a jumping blues show Saturday
night at Lake Clementia Amphitheater. The four-man combo --
guitarist Little Charlie Baty, harmonicist/vocalist Rick Estrin,
drummer Jay Hansen and bassist Lorenzo Farrell -- rolled out
a high-energy performance propelled by expert musicianship
and seasoned with jazz, rockabilly and swing. More adventurous
members of the audience of about 300 got up and danced, and
few could resist Estrin’s invitation to imitate his
harmonica, making a big, happy chorus of “wah-wahs.”
The crowd also responded to the wry humor of original songs
like “Dump That Chump” and “My Next Ex-Wife.”
The band did a meet-and-greet during intermission, reminiscing
with some fans who have known the group during its entire
30-year history in Sacramento. For others, like Breanna Hardy,
11, who had Estrin autograph her program, below, it was a
whole new world. The show was presented by Entertainment,
Theatre and Culture for Rancho Murieta, a nonprofit, volunteer
organization. There's more info about Etc. here.
