DANCING BY THE LAKE

Skinner

Dancers were rather scarce at Lake Clementia Amphitheater while the sun was out Saturday evening...

But once the sun went down, the music from the John Skinner Dance Band drew dozens onto the dance floor.

Once the evening cooled down, the dancing heated up at Lake Clementia Saturday night when the John Skinner Dance Band brought "Moonlight and Music" to the amphitheater.

At first, it was just two couples who braved the dance floor. Earl Gear and Peggie Miller, who were married at the amphitheater only a week ago, were joined by Paul and Louise Gumbinger.

It was dark before the dance floor filled to overflowing and the crowd of about 200 really got in synch with the accomplished musicians. Many were delighted just to listen to a full orchestra do right by time-honored classics.

Susan Skinner, wife of bandleader John Skinner, was the main vocalist and showed her virtuosity with numbers as diverse as the lilting "It's Been a Long, Long Time" and Bob Seger's raucous "Old-Time Rock and Roll." Some of the musicians doubled as singers on such songs as "Stand by Me" and Louis Armstrong's "What a Wonderful World."

The evening was the latest in this year's series of events from the community's Entertainment, Theatre & Culture group. The show was sponsored by Corinthian Homes, builder of the Greens subdivision in Murieta South.
