NEW ETC SEASON

Etc.

(June 4) As the sun set Saturday evening, a new season dawned for Entertainment, Theatre & Culture for Rancho Murieta. The season opener, Elvin Bishop, below, set a high standard with skilled musicianship, showmanship and just plain fun. Bishop, who’s famous for putting on a great show and connecting with the audience, made several forays into the crowd of about 800 and returned once with a woman whom he persuaded to play guitar briefly on stage. The band used keyboards, trombone, drums and guitars to create a vibrant fusion of the blues with other music forms. Nostalgia wasn’t the appeal -- this band made it clear that it thrives in the present. About 45 minutes into the set, the group segued from "In the Still of the Night" to Bishop’s ‘70s hit, "Fooled Around and Fell In Love" and couples began to dance. (There's information about Etc., and another photo of Bishop and band, here.) Opening the three-hour show was the Shane Tiller Band, bottom. Shane Tiller is a blues guitar phenomenon from Roseville who turns 11 next month.
