STEELY SCAMMING

Steely Scam

[Aug. 6] Despite its name, Steely Scam was the real deal at Saturday night’s concert at Lake Clementia Amphitheater, blending jazz, blues and rock and roll into the sound and spirit of the legendary Steely Dan. Anchored by Donald Fagan sound-alike Frank Rios, below, the 10 musicians used horns, guitars, drums and vocals to capture the smooth rhythms and free-form lyrics Fagan and partner Walter Becker made into innovative classics in the ‘70s and ‘80s. Opening with “Josie,” the band delighted the crowd of more than 400 with hits “Bad Sneakers,” “Peg,” “Hey, Nineteen,” “Rikki, Don’t Lose That Number,” “Reelin’ in the Years,” “Aja,” “Deacon Blues” and others. The show was part of the ETC summer concert series, which concludes Sept. 3 with a performance by the Motown legends the Temptations. For information about the show and ETC, click here.
