The Rancho Murieta Niners are fun-loving golfers of all skill levels who meet each Thursday to play nine holes. The Niners’ purpose is to promote the game of golf and to foster sociability and friendship among its members.

Niners' first official day of play

Immediately following a beautiful day of shotgun play on the North back course at RM, the Niners held their first general meeting of the season Jan. 14.
Captain Mary Beth Alamieda opened the meeting by greeting Greg Corsaunt, RM CC Head Pro. Greg presented the new course ratings for the South Course. Our Niners captain then introduced a second speaker Mark Norman, the new food and beverage manager. Mark shared his vision with us for menus, pricing and future changes to benefit RMCC. Niners hold annual 'Turkey Shoot' tournament
Published November 16, 2009The birds were on the run when the Niners teed off for last Thursday's "Annual Turkey Shoot" tournament! Our Chef Jason prepared a delicious turkey dinner with all the trimmings, Dressing, mashed potatoes and sweet potatoes with gravy. The pumpkin cheesecake was the perfect finishing touch to this outstanding lunch. The tournament winners were:

Winds blow away 'Frolics' tournament
Published October 21, 2009The Niners' October 15 Guest Day "Fall Frolics Fore Friends" was literally blown away by a wicked windstorm! The day before the tournament the Club Groundskeeper advised that the course would not be "tournament ready" in time for play. It was quite a disappointment for everyone, especially the Tournament Co-Chairs, Jo Ann Patwell and Annalee Somers and their many volunteer assistants. We know it would have been a wonderful day for all of us and our guests. Our thanks to all the hard working Niners who contributed to this effort!

'Moon Over Murieta' is a fun couples tournament
Published September 16, 2009A star studded dining-room ceiling, Blue Moon Beer and Milky Way Mulligans help set the stage for "Moon over Murieta", the Niners' September 11 Twilight Tournament. Following a "Chip Into the Moon" and putting contest, thirty-eight couples played a shotgun on the North Course, with some finishing the last couple of holes in the dark.
Barbeque chicken and Ribs were on the dinner menu, complimented by assorted salads. It was a very successful evening thanks to the hard working co-chairs, Judy Benjamin and Carol Fraser and their many volunteers.

Niners try to solve the 'mystery' tourney
Published August 24, 2009On August 6th the Rancho Murieta Niners teed off wearing "pastel" colors in line with the Summertime Mystery theme of this month's fun tournament. The "mystery" was in the scoring. No one knew how the team sores would be determined until after play.
Four-person teams played with two team scores. Except for a few balls that mysteriously disappeared in the lake on the 10th hole it was a most enjoyable day!

Fiesta de Murieta is a hit for Niners
Published July 16, 2009June was a busy month for the Rancho Murieta Niners. A well planned and executed Invitational "Fiesta de Murieta", dominated the scene on June 18. A field of 168 participants (126 WNHGA guests from as far as Lake Wildwood & 42 from Rancho Murieta) were greeted by "Zorro"!
The day, started with Breakfast and ended with Lunch in the Murieta Room. Everyone enjoyed the "Complimentary" champagne served before lunch. Tables decorated with beautiful Crepe paper flowers "planted" in colorful containers set the stage for our Fiesta. In keeping with the theme, Tee prizes were lovely Mexican Pewterware trays.

Niners find 31 members improving their game
Published June 15, 2009Team Play update and finalizing plans for our Invitational were on the Agenda at our Niners' General Meeting this month.
Peggy Harrigan, Handicap, announced that May produced 31 Niners who improved their Index, with honors for "most improved" going to Marti Gatlin.
Chris Pasek substituted for Tournament Co-Chairs, Barbara Armstrong and Sharon Heardon, and noted there were no birdies in May, Chip-in awards were earned by Debbie Young (2), Victoria Bobis, Barbara Harris, Betty Ferraro, Jo Ann Patwell, Carol Fraser, Mary Beth Alameida and Barbara Buzdon. Ten of our Niners traveled to Woodland on April 30 to participate in the first Open Day of the year, hosted by the Yolo Flyers. It was a great day for everyone, especially those who earned a place on the Scoreboard. Thanks to Carole Fraser for organizing a great turnout!

Niners have fun with a springtime guest day
Published April 18, 2009119 Niners and Guests gathered together April 2nd for our Spring Time is Golf Time Guest Day tournament. The weather was cool at Tee Time but soon warmed up with play on the North Course, following a Continental Breakfast served in the 19h Hole.
Our committee Co-Chaired by Barbara Saevke and Pat Tomberg presented us with a challenging tournament format. There were two flights - the Daffodil Flight and the Tulip Flight. Prizes were awarded to the 5 lowest scoring teams on each side with the traditional Closest-to-the-pin and Accuracy drive holes. Read more »
Weather and course work don't deter Niners
Published March 22, 2009Frost delays, rain, and course aerating with sandy greens couldn't keep the RM Niners from playing golf this month!
Barbara Armstrong announced the winners of Thursday's Charm & Putt Tournament and distributed Awards for February at our General Meeting.
Kathleen Black will be wearing the Charm this month, with a Low Net of 33! Debbie Young and Jane Miller tied with 13 putts!

Niners kick off the new year

Captain Fran Hubbert called her first meeting of the year to order. She reviewed Roster corrections and advised that they would also be emailed to all members.
Handicap Chairperson, Peggy Harrigan congratulated Toni Vaughn, designated the Most Improved Golfer for December.
Tournament Chairpersons, Barbara Armstrong and Sharon Hearndon distributed leftover 2008 awards and advised that they have scheduled six "fun" tournaments this year: January 22 using three clubs only and playing from the Gold Tees, and February 5, a Valentines scramble, with more to be posted when dates have been determined.

Niners hold Christmas party
Published January 1, 2009What a party! What a year!
For the Rancho Murieta Niners, their annual Christmas party on December 11 was a combination of celebrating the holiday season, reviewing the past golfing year, passing the gavel to the new president, and presenting annual and November/December golfing awards.
The celebration included a delicious buffet lunch in the Murieta Room; a solo vocal performance by our talented general manager, Stan Korich; a Christmas carol sing-along led by Stan, accompanied on the piano by Carol Valladao; and a crystal votive gift for each person. A DVD visual scrapbook captured in photos and music the wonderful year of fun and accomplishments by the Niners. Read more »

RM Niners host 'Swing into Fall'
Published November 9, 2008The day began with a hearty breakfast at the 19th Hole, followed by an alternate shot format tournament devised by Tournament Chair Diane Davey. After golf, the contestants enjoyed a taco salad bar luncheon back at the club house.

RM's Alameida wins WNHGA; Niners elect 2009 officers
Published October 20, 2008Rancho Murieta's Mary Beth Alameida won the coveted 2008 Women's Nine Hole Golf Association's Tournament of Champions on September 23 at the Peninsula Country Club in San Mateo. Thirty-two clubs from the Central Valley, San Francisco Bay Area, East Bay, and Sacramento Valley sent their champions to the tournament, which Mary Beth won in a playoff. Read more »
RM Niners host RM 18-holers
Published September 3, 2008The Rancho Murieta Niners hosted the RM Women’s Golf Club (the 18 holers) for their annual day of golf and fellowship on August 21. Approximately 80 players participated in the 18-hole scramble format.
There were two flights: the Bodega Bay Flight and the Spanish Bay Flight. Prizes were awarded to four places in each flight and for closest-to-the-pin and driving accuracy for both Niners and 18 holers.

Niners' team play champions
Published August 21, 2008Congratulations . . . congratulations . . . congratulations to the Rancho Murieta Niners. In true Olympic Gold Medal fashion, the RM Niners defeated Valley Hi to win the River Valley Divisional Championship on August 14. On top of that, the RM team, for the first time, won the overall Northern California Women's Nine Hole Golf Association (WNHGA) Team Play Championship. August Charm and Putt
Published August 21, 2008Sharon Hearden won the charm with a low net of 38 and Lynette Flores won the putt with 15 at the Rancho Murieta Niners’ monthly Charm & Putt Tournament on August 7.
Most-improved golfers for July also were named. The are: First, Judy Forman; second, Joni Sullwold; third, Marie Dunajski; fourth, Judy Payne; and fifth, Liz Smaker.
Junior Golf Committee Chairperson Sharon Hearden reported that several RMCC girls did very well in the recent Corona Green Tournament. One, Nicole Cruz, won a $400 scholarship for her play. Congratulations, Nicole. Read more »
Niners win WNHGA Division A team play
Published June 23, 2008Led by Captain Lynette Flores, the Rancho Murieta Niners’ members won the Women’s Nine Hole Golf Association (WNHGA) 2008 Division “A” River Valley Championship.
The RM Niners’ team members competed against teams from North Ridge, Alta Sierra, Cameron Park and Lake Wildwood. Each club, including Rancho Murieta, hosted a match and competed for points. At the end of the five-match tournament, Rancho Murieta was the winner. Read more »

Published May 24, 2008The Rancho Murieta Niners had their play day on May 8, followed by a general meeting and lunch in the Parasol Room. No Charm and Putt tournament was played because both the North and South courses were used.

Niners' guest day -- 'Birdies, Blossoms and Berries'
Published May 12, 2008One hundred members and guests participated in the Rancho Murieta Niners’ “Birdies, Blossoms and Berries” Guest Day on May 1. True to the theme, it was a beautiful spring day for golf. The temperature was perfect, the birds were chirping, and the club grounds were in full bloom.
A continental breakfast was followed by golf and a delicious lunch and wonderful strawberry shortcake dessert prepared by Chef Jack and his staff. Table decorations were baskets of spring flowers that then became raffle prizes.
A tee prize (goodie bag) marked each seating place and contained a visor, golf socks, golf ball, and commemorative ball marker. Read more »

Published March 9, 2008Mary Beth Alameida won the charm with a net score of 36 and Chris Pasek won low putts with 14 at the Rancho Murieta Niners February 14 Play Day. Lunch and a general meeting followed the tournament.

Niners' year-end roundup
Published November 27, 2007The Rancho Murieta Niners will wind down the year with their Christmas Luncheon/Party on Thursday, December 13. The signup sheet is posted and your account will be billed. The Village Voices will be the entertainment.
The Niners’ last “official” day for golf is December 6. If you want to play on December 20 and/or December 27, you will need to make your own tee time.
The annual Turkey Shoot was played on November 8, with 44 members competing. The top four winners in each of four flights were paid $20, $15, $10, and $5. The overall net winner was Judy Forman, with a net of 33. The results for the four flights are:

Niners set Turkey Shoot, Christmas party
Published October 21, 2007The Rancho Murieta Niners are winding down their 2007 golfing fun but have two big events coming up in November and December.
The annual Turkey Shoot is set for November 8. It will be a 9 a.m. shotgun start, followed by a sit-down luncheon in the Terrace Lounge and a general meeting. The cost is $15 and will be charged to members’ accounts. Winners will be presented their “turkey” certificates at the meeting. This is always a fun event, so join us and maybe go home a winner. Niners host Guest Day
Published October 11, 2007The Rancho Murieta Niners hosted their final guest day of the year on October 4 – a beautiful, crisp fall day.
After a hearty breakfast, players headed to the South Course for an 18-hole tournament. The format was a scotch twosome (alternate shots for each player) in two flights, the Pumpkin Flight and the Scarecrow Flight.

September Charm & Putt
Published September 24, 2007The RM Niners Charm & Putt Tournament was played on September 6, followed by the Niners monthly general meeting.
RM Niners Captain Chris Pasek won the charm with a net of 36 while Judy Forman and Barbara Irelan tied for low putts with 14.
Chris Pasek also broke 50 for the third time this year, sharing "break 50" honors for the month with Mary Silvis and Mary Beth Almeida.

Chris Pasek wins Niners Tournament of Champions
Published September 11, 2007The Rancho Murieta Niners have completed their Tournament of Champions.
Chris Pasek won the Club Championship with a low gross of 153. Carol Fraser won the first flight with a net of 101; Jo Ann Patwell won the second flight with a net of 113; and Jane Miller won the third flight with a net of 98. Read more »
Niners Charm & Putt winners; runners-up in team championship
Published August 25, 2007Three gals tied for the Charm award in the Rancho Murieta Niners monthly Charm & Putt Tournament on August 9. Jane Miller, Carol Fraser, and Alice Wall each had a net score of 31 and will compete in the Charm Playoff in October. Carol Fraser also won the Putt award, with 13.
