Comment formatting?
The formatting buttons in the comment composing interface (like where I'm typing this) don't work for me. The bold button, for example, makes the word bold in the composition window, but when I actually post, the bolding, italics etc. don't show in the final product.
Which is why I persist in using those annoying CAPS. I'm not really that rude in real life.

Wilbur:
Are you using the Firefox browser? It seems to be an issue there.
As you can see, our esteemed friend Regular Guy, who uses the Internet Explorer browser, has no problem getting italics and bold into HIS comments (or his comments).
Let's see if there's anything that can be done about it.

Thanks for flagging the bug, Wilbur. It has been fixed. Boldface and italicize to your heart's content.
Your posts last night prompted a related note from neighbor Terry Hanson, who hasn't been able to post comments in the new version of RM.com. Here's his note and an educated guess at the problem, which could be on Terry's end.

This comment is sent email direct to editor since I haven't been able to post in Story Comments nor Forum sections of RanchoMurieta.com. This has occurred since dot-com switched to the new format. As Wilbur, I suspect problem lies in the pro forma; that is, one computer's operating system talking (or not) to another,
specifically in different scripting formats and associated settings. I'm not IT advanced enough to mess around with "Advanced Settings" in the engine I use, Internet Explorer. Tried before with all sorts of "foul language" and downtime to recover. Again, as Wilbur, suspect the culprit to be isolated to Java script settings.
Each time I've tried to Comment, and believe me I desire to continue in the fray for whatever it's worth, my Internet Explorer search engine says it "must close due to problems encountered in transmission". Doesn't happen in any other venues, didn't happen before in posting on dot-com, and I don't think my comments are that offensive as to be censored... just kidding, they really should be.
In fairness to Karen [Muldoon, RM.com editor], in telecon, she has offered up Ralph [her husband] to come over and troubleshoot my system, 'cept I can't afford paying the beer price on my Navy retired pay. Karen, has something changed in your OS since switching formats? I know you've suggested using Firefox; I hate it with a passion from my downtown gov employment experience, and am not about to load/use it at home just to post on dot-com. And I really don't want to talk to India again; total respect there, it's Gates' wrongdoing.
So hey techies, do I need to boldly venture and change IE's "Advanced Settings" to reenter the fray And Karen, I understand your reasons for change; I liked the old much better, but that's maybe just me set in habit.

Here's a guess, from one non-techie to another: Is your browser an oldie? Let's find out. Click "Help" in the menu bar of Internet Explorer and then click "About Internet Explorer." That will show you the version of Explorer you're using.
IE is currently up to Version 7. If you're at 5 or earlier, problems at this web site and others shouldn't be a surprise. (You may be missing things at web sites that you're not even aware of.)
If your browser is an oldie, I'm afraid you will have to update to address this problem. But it's painless. If you don't want Firefox, then try Internet Explorer. Click here.
Anyone else have ideas for Terry?

Judging by a story comment posted today, it appears Terry Hanson's problem was the browser, and he's now able to post.

Per your suggestion, I checked my browser, which is IE6 with update SP2 for XP. I then ventured into Advanced, for Java script settings and risked enabling some of those blocks, although I didn't know what I was doing. Apparently it worked, since now the pro forma works and you'll again have to put up with me in posting. Oh well, can always be flagged.
I do agree with others regarding the new formatting, who suggest posting newest comments and replies first in time order in each thread, so one does not have to scroll to the end to retrieve new posts. Also it may be helpful to keep Story subjects and associated comments/replies threads completely separate from reader(or admin)-generated Forum subjects and their associated comments/replies threads, to eliminate confusion of which thread it will be posted in. Last, if it appears the Blog isn't active, perhaps eliminate it, and leave it to Forum for discussion?
Thanks again, and I do owe Ralph that beer.
