Power outage hits 500 Murieta homes

You'd better check your clocks. About 500 Murieta households suffered a power outage overnight.

The power went out about 11 p.m. Thursday, according to Dace Udris, a spokesperson for the Sacramento Municipal Utility District. She said an underground cable failure caused the problem, and power had to be rerouted around the failed cable.

Other households didn't lose power but experienced a succession of brief outages that set off alarms, reset digital clocks and dimmed street lights.

By 12:30 a.m., power had been restored to all but 100 households, Udris said. She estimated those homes would regain power within an hour.
