The eagle has landed!

This morning, Saturday, Dec 29th, our Bald Eagle has returned to Rancho Murieta!  A number of us saw the eagle over Calero Lake.  It was soaring along the Northwest region of the lake.  If you have a chance, you should go out to see the majestic bird of prey.  Bring your binoculars!  She stays clear of any onlookers who attempt to get too close.

Sighting the bald eagle

Thanks for sharing that, David.  Has anyone else seen it?  If you manage to get a photo, you're invited to post it here or e-mail it to editor@ranchomurieta.com and we'll post it for you.

Photos of the bald eagle

We ran across the eagle back on December 13th. It was sitting in the large oak tree (the one that was hit by lightning a couple of years ago) at the "parking lot" downstream from Granlee's Dam. Unfortunately lighting wasn't the best so I don't know if it's really worth posting or not -- I'll leave that up to you.

Bald eagle sighting and photo

Thanks to neighbor Natachia Taylor for the news that two bald eagles were seen at the north end of Lake Chesbro this morning.

We got out there at 9 a.m. and saw one bald eagle (our first) and took some blurry photos from a couple of hundred yards away.

This doesn't compare to the Birchards' photos, but it's the best we got. It's the eagle at the top of a tree, photographed from a couple of hundred yards away.

The bird's size and markings are distinctive and make it easy to spot from far away. We first sighted it from about 250 yards and approached to about 175 yards before the bird flew away.

It's true what they say about eagles in flight. There's a power and ease in the wing motion that's really remarkable.

If you see the eagle (or eagles), please share the word here. If you get a photo, even better. Post it yourself or e-mail it to editor@ranchomurieta.com and we'll make sure it gets posted.

One more shot...

Taking a more careful look at the eagle photos from this morning, there's one more that's worth sharing. (It's better than the first.)
