Major power outage hits 1,200 homes in area

A major power outage hit 1,200 homes in the area for about an hour Wednesday night, affecting Murieta South, areas south of Highway 16 and parts of the North, including the North Gate.

At 8:30 p.m., a Sacramento Municipal Utility District spokesman said he couldn't say what had caused the outage, which hit at 6:25 p.m.

The Rancho Murieta Association said some cable system customers were affected during the outage because the power problem knocked out amplifiers on the system.  David Stiffler, RMA general manager, said the RMA Building was without power.

Station 59 had power, firefighters said.  They reported the Village and Plaza had power, but the Country Store did not.

Both the North and South gates were switched to generator power.

Security reported all of the South was dark, as were parts of the North.

Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District said Sloughhouse Station 58 had been dispatched to Dillard and Meiss roads to address what was reported as a blown transformer.

It's the fifth major power outage in the area in eight weeks.
