Valentine Ball Tournament

By Nan Parquette
Created 02/17/2008 - 7:27pm

There were 3 Saint Valentines, all martyrs, and in the middle ages all were celebrated on February 14th.  It was also observed that birds began to pair about this time.  Now what does this have to do with RMWGC golf?  Relative to the aforementioned, nothing except on February 12th, golfers paired in groups of 4 and played golf using a designated Valentine Ball, thus celebrating the holiday.  Tournament chair, Melinda Frost, was the sweetheart of the day when she decided to pay more places than usual and gave each player a candy sucker to keep up their energy for a cart path only round.  Participants set their hearts on winning in the flighted tournament that required the return of the one pink ball used as part of the scoring.  The pink ball golfers score and the lowest net score of one of the remaining three, were added together to get the results for that hole.  Each participant rotated the designation of the pink ball.   The tournament was played on the South Course.

     CONGRATULATIONS! TO ALL THE WINNERS.

There are members traveling to warmer climates, however, the 60 degree plus weather at RMCC has encouraged 59 members to sign up for the next tournament on February 19.   We are using straight tee times so ladies, remember to sign up in the locker room for a tee time for the next tournament day.

With the continued hope of good golf weather it might be time to re-grip your Baffy, Brassie, Cleek and Jigger.  These are all woods and you may refer to them as 2 – 5 woods, resptively.
