Girl Scout Junior Troop 1219 hosted a Mardi Gras event for Brownies Saturday at the Rancho Murieta Association Building. The girls learned about Mardi Gras and made masks and miniature floats. The junior scouts also served lunch for the Brownies.
Mardi Gras finery included beads and other items used in the New Orleans celebration, thanks to the networking troop leaders did with several Mardi Gras Krewes, Troop 1219 co-leader Cheryl Prestia said. The girls planned the event and carried it out to earn a leadership award. They also earned a Mardi Gras patch from the Girl Scout Council of Southeast Louisiana. "We started with an idea and it blossomed," Prestia said.
