The Community Services District is holding a workshop on conservation pricing 7 p.m. Tuesday at the CSD Building. The agenda is here [1].
Conservation pricing uses higher rates to promote water conservation. The board is considering incorporating conservation rates in the 2008-2009 budget, which is now being developed.
The CSD board began investigating a price structure that would promote water conservation last year in a series of workshops conducted by a consultant. The focus has been on the discretionary use of water since landscape watering accounts for over half the potable water used in the community.
The greatest demand occurs during the dry summer months, when the community relies on stored water, which contributes to the drawdown of the storage lakes. At present, Lake Calero is the only reservoir that is drawn down to supply the community's water needs.
