Bandits Bag a Win; Opening Day a Great Success!
Jonathan "Junk Yard Dog" Delivers for the Bandits
The home-town Bandits came off Stonehouse Field II with a win under their belts. Rancho Murietans of all ages lined the field to watch the Bandits take their opening game 9-6 over the Sierra Highlanders. The Bandits were led by Matt “Splint” Corsaut, taking a no-hit bid into the fourth, while Jonathan “Junk Yard Dog” Aberle closed the game out in style. Splint and Blake “Calaboose” Carmichael had a strong showing at the plate, both going 3 for 3 with doubles. Fine defensive play by scouts (OF) Terry “T-Bone” Conway and Dan “Sunny Daze” Hayes kept the Highlanders in check on the base-paths.
The “cranks” (fans) in attendance created a fun atmosphere for all, being one of the largest crowds in Gold Country Base Ball history. Cranks and players also enjoyed hot dogs and drinks served by the local Rancho Murieta Rotary Club. A big Huzzah to RM Rotary for helping make the day complete!
During the intercession between game one and the league exhibition, many folks asked about how to get involved as a player or volunteer. The interest in Rancho Murieta has built enough so that a second RM team is likely to be formed for next season. Contact Blake Carmichael at drblake4@yahoo.com, or call (354-2496) for information on how to sign up for the 2009 season (the list is filling quickly). Opportunities may also be available to be a “super-sub” this season. Visit the league web-site at http://64.224.190.34/gcvbb/ for more information about vintage base ball, the league’s history, or other league news updates.
The next Rancho Murieta home date is June 29th at 11AM where the Bandits take on the League Champion, Amador County Crushers. See you at the park!

How's That for Openers?
The game was well in hand thanks to the few returning and many new ballists on the club. Mother nature also did her part in making this day a win-win for the players and the "cranks".
We were thrilled to see the high level of community support and interest. Winning is fun, but winning in front of our families, friends and neighbors is what makes it all the more worth the effort!
Hope to see you all there on June 29 as we take on the defending league champs!
