Members of the group that wants to make participation in the Rancho Murieta Association cable system voluntary set up shop to gather signatures at the Plaza Saturday.

Proxies

Robin Albee-Kesich was among the Murietans who stopped to talk with John Weatherford, center, and George Roper.

By late afternoon, Freedom of Choice members John Weatherford and George Roper reported they had collected about 65 proxy votes from RMA members who support the group's plan to change the association's bylaws to prohibit the use of dues for the cable system. RMA members presently pay about $30 a month for the cable system as part of their dues and receive basic cable service.

A petition requesting the special meeting where the vote would take place requires 200 votes and the bylaws change would require 1,250 affirmative proxy votes, Weatherford said. The two said they'll take the effort door-to-door if necessary.

Roper has some thoughts about the first day of signature-gathering in the blog he's writing [0] about the effort.
