Maypole

The community's Maypole celebration, a tradition begun by Pamela Haines 15 years ago, took place on the lawn by the North Gate early Thursday evening. Haines presided over the event, guiding children and their parents in the ritual braiding of ribbon around the Maypole.

Afterwards, Haines helped remove the ribbon garland from the pole so it could be awarded to the child whose name was drawn from a drum.

Olivia Reed

Olivia Reed, 4, was the lucky winner. Her mother, Erin Reed, said the Maypole has been a family favorite since they first took part nine years ago with Olivia's older sister, Carlye. Olivia is the first to take home a garland. The Rancho Murieta Association Maintenance Department installed the pole for the occasion and the Kiwanis Club provided the purple and green ribbon. About two dozen adults and children participated.
