Half-hour power outage hits area

[Updated 9:10 a.m.] A half-hour power outage hit the area Friday morning. The Sacramento Municipal Utility District said some 800 homes were without power after a car hit a utility pole about 6:50 a.m. Security reported both North and South were affected, as were traffic lights on Jackson Road.

Both Fire Station 59, in Murieta, and Station 58, in Sloughhouse, were without power.

Power was lost when a Volvo sedan hit a utility pole located on Sunrise Boulevard between Kiefer Boulevard and Jackson Road, according to Capt. Jeff Lynch, spokesman for Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District. The impact sheared the pole. The accident was called in by an off-duty fire district employee who was on his way to work when he saw the accident scene.

Sac Metro emergency personnel transported the driver of the car to UC Davis Medical Center. No information was available on the driver's injuries or condition.
