'92 Chevy 454SS pickup

Truck

Originally I had a 1990 454 SS that I bought new at Family Chevrolet, Placerville, CA. They only came in black with the red/purple interior. In 1992 they came out with the white one with the blue interior. I ordered one ASAP. That black one you could wash 3 times a day. It only had 16,000 miles on it when I traded it in.

I thought that this 454SS would be the last truck I would have and it would last the rest of my life. Now things have
changed. The truck needs things done and money spent. It needs to go to a collector or restorer in my opinion. I hope to find a good home and someone to appreciate it.

I have never driven it hard, and it has never been overheated. All the mechanical parts are with low mileage and in good shape. It has never been wrecked. In 1994 Family Chevrolet repainted it under warrantee, but they did a half assed job. It wasn’t done completely. You will notice the paint coming off inside the bed and inside the doors and door jams. I have washed the truck maybe 10 times in 16 years. It has never been parked in a garage for one single night in all those years. So this is why the truck needs restoration and should go to a collector. Basically it is cooked and baked in the sun.

It needs a complete paintjob, as the “clear” is coming off along with the above. E-bay has the decal kit on auction.
There are small coffee spills so it could use a carpet kit. The seats and door panels are OK but a little faded. There is another kit if a show truck was wanted. The blue top of the dash is cracked…I don’t think this is specific to the 454SS. All of the lenses need to be replaced from sun damage. The rear end is leaking, the pinion, inspection cover, and axle seals need to be replaced. It needs rear brakes as they are now soaked with oil. At the last oil change the mechanic told me the plastic ends on the transmission lines were leaking and needed to go to the dealer for replacement.

All in all this is a great truck. With a little finesse it will be as good as new…with many miles left in it. At least,
whoever buys it, will not have to spend money on major mechanical repairs. It just passed smog and it is not due until 2010. 85,804.4 miles isn’t much for being 16 years old.

$7,500.00 firm. I will consider a part trade for a vehicle with good MPG for commuting.
