RM's Alameida wins WNHGA; Niners elect 2009 officers

Rancho Murieta's Mary Beth Alameida won the coveted 2008 Women's Nine Hole Golf Association's Tournament of Champions on September 23 at the Peninsula Country Club in San Mateo. Thirty-two clubs from the Central Valley, San Francisco Bay Area, East Bay, and Sacramento Valley sent their champions to the tournament, which Mary Beth won in a playoff.

Other RM representatives also did very well. Jane Miller finished first in the 2nd flight, Dennie Standart placed third in the 3rd flight, and Linda Neth narrowly missed placing in the 1st flight.

Congratulations! What a great tournament by our players and by RM's Annalee Somers, a WNHGA director, who chaired the tournament.

The RM Niners held their monthly general meeting on October 9 and elected officers for 2009. They are: Fran Hubbert, captain; Mary Beth Alameida, co-captain; Barbara Saevke, secretary; and Christine Maun, treasurer.

Committee and special event chairs for 2009 also were announced. They are: Peggy Harrigan, handicap; Barbara Armstrong and Sharon Heardon, tournaments; Karin Craig and Sue Girsch, membership; Chris Pasek, special projects; Jane Miller, bulletin board; Peggie Miller, historian; Judy Somers, eclectic; Connie Enzensperger and Dixie Pavloff, hospitality; Joan Bowen, jr. golf; Carol Fraser, open days; Sally Paravantes, publicity; Diane Davey, etiquette; Bonnie Foley, sunshine; Lynette Flores, team play; Jo Ann Patwell, communications; Annalee Somers, WNHGA delegate; Ev Carpenter and Barbara Saevke, guest day 1; Jo Ann Patwell and Annalee Somers, guest day 2, and Judy Benjamin with a co-chair, Twilight. A chair is still needed for the 2009 Christmas party.

Most-improved golfers for the month of September were announced by Peggy Harrigan: Betty Akins, first; Mary Beth Alameida, second; Colleen DeVincenzi, third; Barbara Saevke, fourth; and Tharon Naffziger, fifth.

Jo Ann Patwell announced the following awards: Chip-ins - Mary Lou Dininger, Diane Davey, Jan Copeland, Annalee Somers, Chris Pasek, Jane Miller, Barbara Armstrong, Mary Beth Alameida, Mary Silvis, Velma Leavitt, Pat Lytle, Dixie Pavloff, and Carole O'Brien. Birdies - Mary Silvis and Carol Fraser. Break 50 - Lynette Flores, Mary Lou Dininger (2), Mary Beth Alameida (2), and Mary Silvis.
