IF they can hold the costs at the estimate, then go ahead. The most important item is that arch. It has ruined the sound quality for most meetings as it acts as a block. The lighting in there is awful--shines right in the audiences eyes.
Of course, we need a large community building. The only way to get it built is to pass a bond issue and have all of us pay for it. We took a special vote for a $100 assessment each to retain the fire station some years back. That would bring in over $200,000 a year and would service a note. Why can't we do a similar thing for a community asset like a building & pool complex..........

Mary, we need a new building, not spend $$$$$ fixing up the current one. $124K will not do the job suggested.
By the way why are we still paying the $100/year fire assessment.??? Sac Cty took over the Fire Station some time ago, and if my facts are correct we all pay a sizable real estate tax to the county for services....one of which is fire protection. Do other sections of the county have special assessments for fire???
If we got that switched over to CSD we could finance a new center

I believe we still pay the $100. assessment for the fire dept. but it's on our property tax bill. If RMA assessed us they cannot go through the county and have it on our property tax bill....of course, I know you already know that. How would we turn it over to CSD to handle and/or collect the money to repair/re-do the RMA property?? I have no problem with paying the fire dept. assessment as they are truly an asset to this community. I would not want to lose them. I do have a problem with paying into an upgrade of a building that we can live with until the economy gets back on it's feet.

Can't vote.
There isn't a category for "don't do anything that requires permitting or anything to do with ADA requirements."
Carpet and paint will help. Maybe updating the light fixtures, but let's see how much that will really cost. Is it as simple as "remove and replace" or will we open up a can that says the wiring isn't sufficient/correct/whatever. Replacing the monster lighting in there now with "can lights" will require rewiring and sheetrock/texture work.
Taking the arch down will make the acoustics different. Better? Who knows (if all would use the microphones, that would solve the audio problems...just sayin'...). It won't actual gain much space when we're talking about needed a couple thousand square feet (not 24sf). And again, sheetrock and texture when the arch is gone. Window coverings? All windows except for the ones that face the center of the building have mini-blinds. Clean 'em and leave 'em. They're fine.
The reception area is ugly and dated too. New work area and front doors would help, but then you have the rest of the building still at 30+ years. Might look like we tried to update it but ran out of money and that wouldn't necessarily be better.
New flooring in the bathrooms might help with the smell. A deep and regular cleaning would help also.
What we need to do is reserve for a tear down and replacement (in that location, as I think it's "centrally located" and if we ever get a new North Gate house, both would make a statement to those visiting our community...well...a better statement than they already make!).

Frank, I also had thought maintaining Station 59 was a county obligation. When the annual assessment was placed on the ballot (a $100 per parcel tax), it won by an overwhelming margin--more than the 2/3 needed to increase taxes. I have since learned that Sac Metro Fire District is completely separate from the county; it has its own elected Board and operates independently. Next to each item on your property tax bill is a phone number where you can get additional info--I'd sure like to find out if the $100 has an end date or not; however, at about $8.00 per month we are getting a much bigger break on fire insurance, should they ever close the station.
