Blues & Brews draws hundreds to Lake Clementia Amphitheater

It gets bigger every year. Blues & Brews, the event for 21-and-overs sponsored by Plaza Foods in conjunction with the Kiwanis Club and the Rancho Murieta Association, brought hundreds to Lake Clementia Amphitheater Saturday evening for live music, the opportunity to sample dozens of beers and wines, as well as food from local eateries and the wares of area artisans. The event raises funds for youth projects in the community.

Fiddletown Cellars was one of the participating wineries, and the only one to bring along a fiddle.

Raffles and silent auctions were part of the fun. Artisans each donated a work to the auction to help raise funds. Event organizers say Blues & Brews has raised nearly $50,000 in recent years.

Art came in many forms – shirts, paintings, jewelry, and handmade purses – and found a receptive audience.

Murietans Bruce and Kathy McMahon introduced the O Table at their art-filled tent. With a doughnut-shaped addition, a garden pot becomes an elegant table, causing people to say (you guessed it): “Oh!”

Ron Ruff prepared an army's-worth of peppers and onions for the Kiwanis Club’s famous Italian sausage sandwiches.

Stonehouse band members led by Darin Sexton were among the musicians who provided non-stop entertainment. Performers included Twanna Turner, daughter of legendary performer Ike Turner, Jerry Martini of Sly and the Family Stone, Stonehouse drummer Steve Vandewark, Cedric Curtis on guitar and his wife, Marie Ferrini on vocals, Brian Sweet on bass guitar, Adam Block on guitar and Frankie Sorci on keys.
