North Gate work expected to be done today
Long-awaited repairs began at the North Gate Friday morning. The entrance and exit to the North Gate were limited to one lane, with Security gate officers continuing to check in visitors from the grass. Work started after 8 a.m. in an effort to avoid peak morning traffic, and it's expected to be complete by 2 p.m., according to Rancho Murieta Association Maintenance Manager Rod Hart. The work includes replacing the loops embedded in the asphalt of the exit lanes. Backups resulted from the traffic light being on a timer and not staying green as long as usual and from the reduction to one lane for exiting. Exiting traffic faced a 15-minute delay around 9 a.m. The Escuela gate was opened to facilitate exiting the community. Hart and Security Chief Greg Remson were at the gate since Maintenance and Security are coordinating traffic. The contractor is cooperating with Caltrans since a permit was required for the repairs because they involve the Highway 16 intersection.

The contractor was aiming for 2 p.m., but work was still going on at the North Gate exit a couple hours after that, although paving at the entrance was completed. Workers finished the last exit lane around 4:30 p.m. Traffic was limited to one lane during the work, and the Escuela gate was available as an alternate exit throughout the day to ease delays in leaving the community.
