Sloughhouse Inn

There are still a couple of events booked, but Saturday night was the last night of public operation for the Sloughhouse Inn under Mark and Betsy Hite, who’ve run the business for 14 months. The 160-year-old inn, once a stagecoach stop, has had a tough 21st century, dark most of that time. Betsy Hite, who was also the chef for this incarnation, circulated among the tables Saturday night, stopping here and there to exchange hugs. In a brief interview, she said the business hadn’t returned a profit since opening and they had to spend a substantial amount for building maintenance. She said there's not another restaurant operator in line to run the Sloughhouse Inn. Hite's catering business, based in Wilton, continues. (Click photo for larger image.)

Randy Stringer Not surprised.

Michelle Craft Hopefully it will be bought by good owners...

Brian Donnalley Knew this was going to happen. Maybe, just maybe if the new owners in the future would take the restaurant back to the way it was in the past as a successful business they could stay open. I've been going there for 25 years and have seen the changes that have driven customers away. Take care of the people that take care of you...LOCALS

John Dekker I'm very sorry to hear this.

Kris Kozy Dougan So many memories there!

Judy Erickson Miner Very Sad to Hear!!!

Marie Beckstaiger Never ate there myself based on other family members multiple tries to get a good meal.

Kelli Ebbs I've so many fond memories there over the years!

Keith Ferreira Not surprised.

Vincenza Sherman Too bad we sure love the scene. Can't believe someone that is awesome in the business wouldn't take it over!

Marissa Mindt As a murieta resident this is very sad, but honestly, the food here was terrible. Stonehouse Bistro up the road is a much better option for any meal.

Dolores Vargas Seville Last time I went to bistro BK's burger looked better then what they served. My pasta dish had no flavor.. When I ordered another glass of wine they served me the cheaper bottle and I overheard owner tell the waiter "she won't know the difference" poor kid (waiter) was so embarrassed I gave him kudos for handling "it" and the owner scolding him in front of customers with grace (someone raised this young man right)
