Country Club throws party for golfer headed to U.S. Senior Open

The Country Club is throwing a send-off party for Don Thames as he leaves for the U.S. Senior Open July 28-Aug. 3 in Colorado. The party, open to club members, begins 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Terrace Lounge. The club is hosting complimentary draft beer and hors d'oeuvres as well as raffle prizes. Six weeks of work begins on Bass Lake drainage diversion

The pipes -- with diameters as big as 42 inches -- will carry water away from Bass Lake.

Massive pipes were trucked to Bass Lake Monday as the long-awaited drainage diversion project gets underway this week. Pipes with diameters of 42 inches will be buried up to 18 feet deep to divert storm drainage and run-off from the lake.  Read more »

A busy day at the Country Club

It was a festival both outside and inside the Country Club Saturday. In the clubhouse, local artists offered handmade jewelry, glass, ceramics, handbags and paintings for purchase at the Murieta Spring Arts Festival. At the driving range, golfers made their way along a row of colorful tents and selected clubs from a variety of manufacturers for a trial run. Saturday evening a tribute to Duke Ellington was scheduled at the club's Jazz Supper Club for members and their guests.

Hundreds enjoyed the hospitality of the Rancho Murieta Country Club Sunday afternoon. The open house event at the clubhouse offered food, wine and music for members and prospective members.

Not your usual sprinkler break

Water main

A plume of water estimated at 80 to 100 feet appeared over the Fairways Wednesday after a water main on the North Course next to De La Cruz Drive broke around 5:30 p.m. The water display ended when Country Club personnel closed the valve that supplies irrigation water from Bass Lake to the 10-inch pipe.

Bob Johnson, the Country Club's general manager since 2000, has been removed from the job, the club announced Tuesday.  In an interview, Johnson described the parting as friendly and said he may be finished with the country club field after 40 years.  Read more »
