River Valley Times at it again...

I would have thought after the furor the paper had a couple months ago regarding the statement their former opinion columnist made about young men of color being better off staying home after a certain time of night that they would more carefully consider what they publish.  The most recent addition in my mailbox last night (Thursday 06/28/2018) contained a completely unhinged and offensive letter to the editor.  I honestly thought it was a bad attempt at humor or satire and kept waiting for a sarcastic remark to wrap up the absurdity of it all.  I realize a letter to the editor is opinion, and that opinion is of someone not employed by the paper but the paper ultimately controls what they publish so why would they choose to publish such openly blatant racist and conspiratorial rantings?

Obviously anyone with some semblance of ability to think reasonably can immediately dismiss the majority of the letter as it is clearly detached from any sort of reality.  It is simply the regurgitation of conspiracies spouted by the most extreme and dangerous political commentators at the very desolate outskirts of our political landscape and filled with blind, sycophantic and cultish idol worship of the similarly detached from reality, corrupt, deranged, self-serving and aggrandizing failure of a president we currently have.  To that point, much of it is outright nonsensical or entirely self-contradicting, but the fact that a statement claiming people who march with Nazis and champion their causes are actually good people isn't even the most distasteful sentence in the letter speaks volumes about the lack of an evaluation process for what gets published in the RVT.

Despite my personal opposition to the current executive branch administration, I accept there are always political disagreements and not everyone feels as I do so I fully comprehend that opinions can vary widely, but I can't imagine good, caring and moral citizens of any ilk or political bent would even privately think such disgusting things.  I don't even think obsequious mouthpieces like Hannity could bring themselves to say such horrendous things.

To think that we Murietans in general, simply because we live in the same neighborhood, might possibly be even remotely associated with someone who feels it is acceptable to write something like this is appalling to me.  The immigration debate is admittedly complicated, but as a Christian I take great offense to anyone presuming they know God's plan, and it is a stretch to say the least to think the God who gave us his only Son so that our significant faults could be forgiven would have a "plan" involving taking children from their parents simply for the crime of those parents attempting to seek a better life for those same children!

God help us all if our children truly do start emulating this behavior...I will be praying for God to cleanse and heal Dave Hill's confused and pained soul.

I think Dave’s soul is just fine and you have just proved his point.

And what point would that be

And what point would that be Betsy, that nazis are good people or that mexicans are rapists?

I will let you figure it out.

I will let you figure it out.  Read it again.  Saying mean things about others who you don’t know seems to be becoming epidemic.  I won’t go there.

Thank you for your courtesy

Thank you for your courtesy in keeping it civil, but you don't need to say anything mean about others you don't know, Dave already took care of that.  All I said was I will be praying for him.

Nothing in that "letter" is worth revisiting.  Appreciate your thoughts.

Satire

With all due rrspect, Dave appears to hate Trump as much as you do! I think you should read it again.

Sadly, many Trump haters would be doing and saying the same thing had any other conservative beat Hillary.

Satire

John. Congratulations on your ability to recognize Dave Hills letter in RVT as satire. The first paragraph was pretty much a giveaway. Nicely written by the way, Dave. Now John...can you tell me anything about his letter that wasnt the truth?

Good Times Bunky

It’s worth my time Bunky. Let’s look at some facts. I like the first sentence of the second paragraph, “President Trump has become our teacher.”  I like that because there are some Trump teaching moments for you open minded anti-Trumpers.  Let’s look at the economy.

Do you hear that humming sound? That’s the engine of our thriving free market economy. Record numbers of Americans employed, 213k new jobs in June, GDP way up, manufacturing jobs way up, etc. And Trump doesn’t have to print money to sustain that crappy Obama economy. (Look up QE.) He doesn’t need the feds to hold down interest rates. He doesn’t need to implement that disastrous “stimulus package” for “shovel ready” jobs that Obama later joked “were not as shovel ready as we (Obama) expected.” Unfortunately the joke was on the American taxpayer. You see Bunky, when businesses actually believe government is getting off their backs, consumer confidence goes through the roof. That’s good for you and for me, and more important, that’s good for our families. Teaching moment Bunky.

People don’t run businesses to hire other people. They run businesses to make a profit. Economic illiterates like Ami Bera and Nancy Pelosi don’t understand that. If business owners think they will do better by hiring more people, they will. Consumer confidence is through the roof now but a few years ago it waned when Obama said “you didn’t build that” and when billions went to junk businesses like Solyndra and when we taxpayers paid for that bottomless money-pit that adversely affected so many lives, Obamacare.

For 8 years, President Obama failed to deliver 3% GDP. That’s a record of ineptitude. He had the worst of the last 11 recoveries since WWII. He holds the record for the most quarters where economic growth is 2% or lower. He had the lowest labor participation rate (62%) and highest non-participation rate in history. (BLS.) Business start-ups actually slowed at the end of his presidency. (14% in 2014 to 12% in 2015.) Look at his food stamp and disability numbers – all-time highs. There was a decline in real household family income. Americans suffered. And for all of this, President Obama doubled our national debt. His economic record was objectively dismal. Another teaching moment Bunky.

I don’t like Trump’s tweets and I am not a fan of his as a person. He wasn’t my first choice of GOP candidates and I didn’t vote for him in the CA primary, but about 90% of his economic policies have been objectively successful. He deserves credit for turning the anemic Obama economy around. But for all those great numbers, we witness the childish temper tantrums from the closed minded left. Intellectual laziness. Ignorance. Violence. Intolerance. More teaching moments Bunky.

Seriously, have you ever, once in your life, paused to wonder why, with an open mind, the economy is rocking? Now is that time Bunky.

Teaching moment

Scott. Giving Trump credit for 10 years of economic gains and recovery from one of the worst rcessions in history, is quite a stretch, since he has only been in office for 18 months. But, nice try. And yes, you are correct, these are good times for some. But when Trumps tariffs and resulting trade war kicks in, its gonna get ugly, and all bets will be off. That's your "teaching moment" for today.

Comical again. You suggest that Obama is responsible for the economy? Priceless leftist!

You are an auto servicing business...right? I would imagine you are pretty happy that General Motors is still in business, eh? You can thank Obama for that.

Ed

Ed, it's what they do! So I guess that's what we got for 10 trillion spent by the Obama administration and Congress in his 8 years. Money we printed.

Yep, makes perfect sense.

uh......

Isn't it amazing how President Obama was able to get the Republican-majority House to vote for all that spending during the last six years of his presidency? At least now that the Republicans control the Senate, House, and WH they fixed that big deficit problem with huge tax cuts that they forgot to offset with any spending cuts. But it's all Obama's fault.

Dave,

So you're suddenly worried about 1 trillion over 10 years? That's the projection. But you didn't care about Bush and Obama spending 15 trillion over 15 years? Amusing, I wondered when you would comment given the wonerful comments you wrote about Trump.

Still chuckling about dems not caring when 15 trillion was spent. Your kids will pay for it and we got nothing for it.

"All that spending"

Dave, how much of the 10 trillion was deficit spent in the first two years of the dems controling everything with Obama?

You're correct.

It was the other Dave in the RVT. My mistake.
