Cal Fire officials put 16 workers on administrative leave Monday as they prepare to receive results of an investigation into allegations that firefighters had sex with prostitutes at the Fire Academy in Ione.
The allegations surfaced this spring after Orville Fleming, a 55-year-old former Cal Fire battalion chief, was arrested in May on suspicion of murdering his girlfriend, 26-year-old Sarah Douglas. Authorities said Douglas worked as a paid escort when she and Fleming met two years earlier. Fleming’s wife, Meagan Fleming, told KXTV in Sacramento that her husband and other firefighters had sex with prostitutes at Cal Fire’s training station in Ione.
The report from the full investigation is due soon. Placing the 16 on leave is the result of preliminary information, officials said.
