Wanderer Bookmobile

I learned this morning that a high-ranking woman from the Sac Library would be out here next Wednesday, 9/30, sometime between 9 and noon to check on the usage this service provides, number of clients, etc. I believe one of the other Bookmobiles has already been shut down, but this is a taxpayer (read: you and me) funded service, one of few we receive out in RM on a regularly scheduled basis.

As a regular user, I see visitors running the gamut from moms with toddlers and pre-schoolers to many seniors with vision problems who receive books on tape or large-print  versions.  Then there are the various book clubs, whose members often need several copies of the same book. Both Neil Denton, our current librarian and Linda Howe before him were always ultra accomodating to residents' special requests.

We lived through threat of closure about five years ago and had a great turnout in support of keeping "our" Bookmobile.

Since it is uncertain exactly what time the library leadership will show up, I would hope that folks would assure being there on and off over the entire three hours.  If possible, please try to carpool to take the minimum parking at the Village Clubhouse into consideration.

Many residents make annual (or more often) donations to the library to assure we maintain the great service we have. I learned that contributors should make out checks to Wanderer Bookmobile and not to the Sacramento Publid Library. This assures that contributions cannot be used for anything other than the bookmobile service.

If you're a reader and a supporter of other bibliophiles, please stop by next Wednesday, say hi and show your support .

Clarification

At this time, the Bookmobile service is not at threat of being eliminated due to County budgetary woes.  This is simply a visit by the new library head, a woman recently arrived from Omaha, Nebraska, to observe just how the system works. To clarify a couple of calls/e-mails I have recieved, this is not a "rally" of any sort; just drop in, perhaps say hi to the woman, and continue to check out and return books as you normally do!

Let's make it a routinely positive experience, as are all other Wednesdays down at the Village.
