As a bagpiper played the anthems of the armed services and "Amazing Grace,"  a dozen scouts from Scout Troop 633 conducted a solemn ceremony at sunset Monday to retire the community's tattered flags and honor those who have served their country and sacrificed their lives. A hushed crowd of about 25 gathered at Lake Calero to witness the ceremony, which began and ended with the mournful notes of "Taps." A total of 80 flags were submitted for retirement. This is the third year that the scouts, the Kiwanis Club and the Rancho Murieta Association Maintenance Department have coordinated the Memorial Day ceremony.
