Great meals and outings

Neighbor Teresa Field has a nice post in the blogs about a great dining and lodging experience in Amador. Her post is so good it deserves its own thread here in the Forums, and maybe it can be the launch pad for something we can build as a group.

Do you have your own great dining experience to share? Or maybe a fun day being a tourist in the area?  It doesn't have to be elaborate, just something you'd recommend to a friend.

You know you'd appreciate information like that, so share your own and maybe it will come back to you.

With nearly 700 members at RM.com (and 6,000-some visitors every month), we're betting there are some savvy travel/restaurant customers out there.

Add your thoughts to this thread or start one of your own.

Imperial Hotel, Amador

I just returned from a wonderful escape for two nights at one of our local hotels, the Imperial Hotel in Amador. I couldn't believe that it was only 20 minutes away. I have nothing to do with the hotel except to be very happy with their incredible service. And I wanted to share a package they are offering through March (Sun/Mon and Wed/Thurs nights) that I just enjoyed. For $270 + tax, they offer two nights stay, two homemade breakfasts (hot or cold - you choose) and two dinners (one at their restaurant and the other at Taste) for two. Or in our case, we expanded the package and
made it for three close friends.

The first night my two friends and I ate at the hotel. The package
includes a choice of appetizer, main dish and dessert for each guest. I have eaten there on several occasions and have always found the food, service, and atmosphere wonderful. That evening didn't let me down. The scampi and duck we shared were delicious. I would also highly recommend the cheese plate; the cheeses were incredible. We were then delighted to enjoy their beautiful room with down bedding and big fluffy towels. We enjoyed coffee and tea in a little sitting area outside our bedroom before going down to the breakfast. After breakfast, we went walking out behind the hotel and ran across a couple of old mills and a farm. Later that afternoon, we shopped in the local stores and sat out on the 2nd story porch where we were able to drink wine, talk, and enjoy the scenery.

We received $40 each to use at the Taste restaurant in Plymouth for our second evening. The innkeeper, Marianne, even made our
reservation. The dinner was tremendous. We shared a variety of small plates that the restaurant split between the three of us. I highly recommend the mushroom cigar appetizer and the large plate of filet & lobster. I can't say enough about the wonderful food, service and atmosphere. Taste is a wonderful way to describe the food. Each taste was a delight.

My two Bay area friends and I left the hotel happy and well rested,
ready to start the new year. I can't recommend more highly the
experience of getting away to this nearby oasis. Cheers!
