Bee looks at Murieta tree removal

Today's Bee looks at Reynen & Bardis' removal of trees in developing a South subdivision and then failing to replace the trees.  Among the county failures in the process -- there's no evidence that R&B posted a required $100,000 bond.  R&B's P.R. outfit had no comment.

See the story here.

Bee trees

Surely this all speaks for itself. Anyone with experience with developers knows this is SOP to have someone on the inside watching the other way while the slop is tacked up, tree cut down and when they are done they're gone. Can't wait for more oxygen producing trees to be hacked down may be for the once a year night flight?

Trees

It would not serve me well to mention places or names. So I retract this grossly overstated conclusion for this one:

The county only overlooked the issues at RM and R&B only ripped off the RM community.

How many trees were cut down

How many trees were cut down all over Rancho Murieta??

There were a few trees in the Corinthian homes development(R&B) and how many do you think were cut down to put homes in on the North side or older South?

Trees in general are cut down everywhere to put development in. Folsom, Twelve Bridges area around Lincoln, Rocklin, etc.

It is not just one developer doing this. Happens everywhere!

Trees

Jeff,

Maybe to some people, cutting down even one tree is a sin.

The issue wasn't that developers cut down trees for development.  Municipalities cut down trees, Utilities cut down trees, homeowners cut down trees, etc, and for good reasons.  Just like some people don't want to share their backyards with wild animals that will harm you, some trees too close to your house will do the same.

The issue was that R&B failed to complete their agreement with the County and the County failed to ensure they did.  Not all developers fail to comply with federal, state and county requirements.

"You get what you inspect not what you expect" is the lesson the county needs to learn.

Trees

Both of you gentlemen, Mr. Lentz and Mr. Burnett, have valid points. Due diligence on every-one's part surely was and is the answer.

Let's look it as it is today. R&B won't likely replace the cut trees as they agreed. So let's not let another tree come down as a result of development. As far as the airport, just how many pilots are really affected by the nighttime restriction? If there was ground swell support for night landings, then there is justification. However, I have my doubts about the "need". In any case, overflying the community certainly should be prevented

To cut these beauties down for a once in a while flight just doesn't seem like logic much less justice.
