Thieves hit four unlocked vehicles overnight in Rancho Murieta North, taking a purse from one.

Three of the incidents occurred at the Villas, and the other happened on Rio Circle, according to a Volunteers in Partnership with the Sheriff volunteer, who took the reports.   The purse, taken from the vehicle on Rio Circle, was found later by a neighbor.  It was the only report of an item of value being taken.

Security Chief Greg Remson has repeated the same advice after each past theft from cars in the community -- lock your vehicles.  Here's how he said it after a string of robberies:

"These are preventable crimes. ... This person is not forcing entry. ... Lock your cars, don't leave any valuables inside. If possible, park in the garage and keep the garage doors locked."

"Robbers"

We really should use the correct headlines for these incidents.

Robbers they are not.  If the vehicle is unlocked, they are not even burglars.

Robbery is taking something through the use of force or fear.  Burglary is from a dwelling or a LOCKED vehicle.

The criminals in these incidents are just THIEVES, plain and simple and they are guilty of petty or grand theft, depending on the value and type of items that were stolen.

You're right

Correct.  It was a careless mistake.  The word has been changed.

Bill:

Obviously you  are knowledgeable of the law but for we more mature and less knowledgeable of the law, is  this right?

If I shoot a person that is in my driveway and stealing from my car. if I shoot him, can I be convicted of manslaughter ????

Our security knows of the moving groups that are here and I don't underatand why they have not done more.

 Disgustig Parents and accepting neighbors.. Time to wake up;

This is Rancho Murieta!!  Enough of this nonsense...  Does it take a creep or what???? I beg you all, I have seen death and it is not a view you want!!

Chuck,

Basically you better be in fear of your life or the life of someone else before using deadly force.  Shooting someone for stealing property, especially from a motor vehicle has never been condoned.

If someone is breaking into your house and you shoot them, the old saying is they better be inside your house, fall inside your house or you better drag them in.

Back to the car, I'm not sure what the DA would charge, but you can bet it would be charged. Theft of property is not justification for deadly force.

I'm not sure I'm comfortable expressing what I think should be done to the theives, but rest assured, the DA wouldn't like my methods either.
