Burglars hit Rancho Murieta Plaza's Ace Hardware store overnight, shattering a glass front door to get in and taking the safe from the store.

Security Chief Greg Remson said Security received an alarm call from the store at 2:50 a.m., and Officer Rick Tompkins responded and found the broken door.  Sheriff's deputies arrived, along with the store's owners, and found no one inside.

Remson shared what the store's surveillance tapes showed:

A silver Chrysler 300-type car had stopped in front of the store.  Two suspects got out and walked to the front of the store while the driver backed the car into a parking space.  One person used a sledgehammer to break the glass door. He and a person carrying a flashlight went into the store and directly to the rear, where they entered the office and forcibly removed the safe, which was bolted to the floor. The burglars ran from the store carrying the safe.

From the time the car drove up to the time it drove away was about 3½ minutes, Remson said.

Sheriff's investigators checked for fingerprints and reviewed the surveillance tapes. Both suspects had jackets with hoods that partially covered their faces, Remson said.

Previous attempt?

Wasn't there a previous attempt at stealing the safe at ACE sometime within 12 months?   Wow!
