A chemical-filled water bottle -- a possible chemical bomb -- was disabled by a hazardous-materials crew and removed from a driveway in Rancho Murieta South late Thursday.
Security Chief Greg Remson gave this version of events on Friday:
Around 11 p.m., a suspicious-persons call was received from a home on Abierto Drive. When Security responded, the subjects were gone, but officers found a water bottle with a strong chemical smell.
Sac Metro Fire was notified and firefighters responded. They called in a haz-mat crew, and deputies also responded.
“The haz-mat team neutralized the chemical in the bottle,” Remson wrote in an e-mail. “It was thought to be a type of chemical bomb made out of chlorine tablets and water.”
Remson said Security and neighbors provided the deputies with information on possible suspects.
