A 20-year-old Rancho Murieta man faces a charge of grand theft after being arrested in the post office parking lot in Murieta Plaza and charged with stealing $1,600 from a companion.

Cory Hessler was arrested shortly after midnight Monday after a sheriff’s deputy spotted a problem while patrolling around Lone Pine and Murieta drives. “The deputy observed several subjects in the parking lot of a post office, who appeared to be in an argument.  Upon further investigation, the victim stated one of the subjects present stole $1,600 out of her purse,” according to Sheriff’s Sgt. Tony Turnbull.

He said deputies located the stolen money on Hessler. The Rancho Murieta Security Logs for the incident say only $1,200 was recovered.

Hessler was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail. He is free awaiting a continuation of arraignment June 21.
