Working with horses at Paradise fire scene

TrailerMurieta Equestrian Center owner Carol Anderson Ward and the West Coast Equine Foundation have dispatched a trailer with equipment and crew to build 60 portable stalls for injured horses evacuated from the Camp Fire area. The stalls will be built at the Butte County Fair Grounds in Gridley, the groups announced Monday. The two organizations are working with the Northern California Association of Equine Practitioners, which has dispatched its new emergency response trailer to Gridley, so it can serve as a veterinary base. The trailer will be sent to future emergencies as needed. Also participating in the effort is the North Valley Animal Disaster Group. Marketplace will raise funds for fire victims

Farmers marketRancho Murieta Marketplace – the Saturday-mornings market at 14670 Cantova Way – will hold a fundraiser for the Northern California fire victims Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. In addition to the regular vendors and vegetables and fruits, there will be an hourly raffle, barbecue, music, fire trucks and local service organizations. You can donate by cash, credit card or check. All proceeds will go to the Northern California Wildfire Relief Fund. There's more information at the Marketplace Facebook page. Hotel responds to lawsuit by suing builder

Changing of the guard at Business Center

Greg Nelson, right, owner and operator of the Rancho Murieta Business Center for 11 years, introduced Bhupinder Singh, second from right, to well-wishers at an open house Friday evening at the shop in the Plaza. In addition to the center’s shipping, printing and other services, new owners Madho Singh and Bhupinder Singh will offer a smoke shop with a selection of cigars, pipe tobacco and cigarettes. No smoking will be allowed in the store. Nelson is taking a break before settling on his next career move, and there’s a chance he’ll go to Alaska to work in the fishing industry this summer. Leading a high-energy exercise class wasn’t the most challenging part of Saturday morning for Marlene Vierra. That came afterwards, as dozens of  Get Fit Fitness Center staff members and clients gathered to celebrate the business and its owner. After 20 years,Vierra is closing the gym on Cantova Way May 1.  “I’ve enjoyed each and every one of you,” she told the group. “It’s a privilege to be in your lives ...
