The Sacramento County Sheriff's Department will hold a Rancho Murieta community meeting from 6:30 to 8 p.m. May 19 at the Village Clubhouse, on Poncho Conde Circle. Among the planned topics are a new policing program (they call it "Intelligence Led Policing"), a new community relations program and the youth services program. Bring any questions or concerns. County seat candidates to debate March 15

Five candidates for Roberta MacGlashan's seat on the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors will take part in a debate 6:30 p.m. March 15 at Stage 1 of the Harris Center at Folsom Lake College in Folsom.

Candidates participating in the debate are educator Gary Blenner, educator Gary Burns, Citrus Heights Mayor Sue Frost, Folsom City Council Member Kerri Howell and Folsom-Cordova School District Trustee Teresa Stanley.

Naida West, whose ranch adjoins the North Course’s third hole, was among the speakers at the Cosumnes Community Planning Advisory Council’s meeting on Rancho Murieta development at Cosumnes River Elementary School.

[News brief published Jan. 26] Residents took the opportunity to express their concerns about a plan to add 827 homes to Murieta North when the Cosumnes Community Planning Advisory Council met last week. Half of the two-hour session was devoted to comments from the audience of about 90. County planners noted topics the 18 speakers raised so they can be included in the environmental review process now underway for the Rancho Murieta North project. Widespread power outage hits east county

Power was interrupted for a wide area of eastern Sacramento County for about a half-hour Sunday afternoon. The outage, starting around 2:30, impacted North and South Murieta and the Jackson Road traffic signals for the gates.

SMUD reported 11,000 customers were impacted, between Highway 16 and Highway 50. SMUD spokesperson Jonathon Tudor said palm fronds got into the power lines near Dillard Road and tripped a breaker.

County candidate to visit Local Bean Saturday

Teresa Stanley, a candidate for the county supervisor seat being vacated by Roberta MacGlashan, will stop at the Local Bean, in Murieta Plaza, from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday to meet with Rancho Murieta. Stanley, the owner of two businesses, has served for two decades on the Folsom Cordova Unified School District board. From her website: “...One of my first priorities as your supervisor will be to streamline the business permitting process to make Sacramento a better place for businesses to thrive and grow. County meeting on development Tuesday night

The Cosumnes Community Planning Advisory Council is holding a public workshop at Cosumnes River Elementary School 7 p.m. Tuesday on the development plan for Murieta North. The Rancho Murieta Properties development proposal calls for dividing 772 acres on the North into eight villages with a total of 827 single-family residential lots. The plan is currently going through the Sacramento County planning process and an environmental impact report is being prepared.

The workshop will serve as a community meeting to assist Sacramento County “in identifying the range of actions, alternatives, mitigation measures, and significant effects to be analyzed in the EIR,” according to the agenda. Read more » about County meeting on development Tuesday night

County will improve Stonehouse to allow gate

The hill north of the Escuela gate will be lowered seven feet.

Retreats project map heads for final OK

Approval of the final map for the Retreats West project is on the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors’ Tuesday meeting agenda. The item is one of 50 consent items that will be approved with a single vote of the board at its 9:30 a.m. meeting.

Material for the item states that the project has will-serve letters from the Rancho Murieta Community Services District and Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District.

If an item is taken off the consent calendar for discussion, that item will be heard at 2 p.m.

The tentative maps for the Retreats project and the Residences of Murieta Hills East and West, a total of 282 residential lots, were approved in 2007 over objections from development opponents, the Rancho Murieta Association and the Country Club. County meeting about Kiefer Landfill Monday

The county will hold a community meeting about the Kiefer Landfill 6:30 p.m. Monday at the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District #58, 7250 Sloughhouse Road. The meeting will focus on proposed use of buffer lands around Kiefer Landfill, which is on  Kiefer Boulevard in Sloughhouse, about six miles from Rancho Murieta. There’s a summary of the plans here. The planning area was the subject of an environmental review and community meetings in 2012 and 2013. County representatives will be on hand for Monday’s meeting.
