Officials respond to report of body in car

Sheriff’s, Rancho Murieta Security and fire personnel converged on Lake Clementia Park Tuesday afternoon after a fisherman reported seeing a vehicle with a body inside parked near the water. Officials at the scene declined to comment beyond saying they provided an emergency response to a call received about 2 p.m. concerning an unresponsive man. Sgt. Lisa Bowman, spokesperson for the sheriff's department, said emergency personnel were initially concerned that a canister on the car seat contained chemicals, but it turned out to be a CO2 canister. “We will have to wait for the coroner’s determination if officially it was a suicide, but on the surface it appears it was a planned event,” Bowman said. Mapping crime incidents could help discern patterns and suggest security priorities, CSD Director Mike Martel told the community's Joint Security Committee.

The idea of mapping crime incidents in the community to highlight areas that need attention was brought to the Joint Security Committee at its meeting Friday.  “I hate that we just report what (crime) happened, and there’s no pre-thought or prevention on what we’re going to do,” said Community Services District Director Mike Martel, a member of the committee.
