CSD sets the stage for tiered water rates

Residents will be receiving notices of tiered pricing rates the Rancho Murieta Community Services District may have to implement as part of its drought response. The CSD board voted to start the rate process at its meeting last week. The earliest the rates could be put in place is May if the board decides they are needed to reach water conservation goals. Security: Golf cart crashes trigger DUI arrests

Two single-vehicle golf cart accidents resulted in DUI arrests last month, Security Chief Greg Remson told the Community Services District Security Committee. Mapping crime incidents could help discern patterns and suggest security priorities, CSD Director Mike Martel told the community's Joint Security Committee.

The idea of mapping crime incidents in the community to highlight areas that need attention was brought to the Joint Security Committee at its meeting Friday.  “I hate that we just report what (crime) happened, and there’s no pre-thought or prevention on what we’re going to do,” said Community Services District Director Mike Martel, a member of the committee. Burglaries, North Gate fight top Security report

Security incidents in March included a confrontation that required the use of pepper spray, a late-night gathering on Latrobe Road adjacent to Rancho Murieta that brought out law enforcement personnel and a police helicopter, and several residential burglaries with no sign of forced entry. The incidents appear in the Rancho Murieta Community Services District security logs, and Security Chief Greg Remson provided additional information at the CSD Security Committee meeting last week. Security reports mountain lion sighting

Security Chief Greg Remson reported Tuesday that a Security patrol officer on routine patrol overnight observed a mountain lion walking on the hill between Lake Chesbro and the water treatment plant. Remson reminds residents that "we live in mountain lion country," and advised people to call Security at 354-2273 (CARE) if they see one.

The mountain lion's main source of food is deer. The Rancho Murieta deer population thrives on landscaping and some people deliberately feed them, although it's against the law to feed deer by putting out grain or salt licks. Read more » about Security reports mountain lion sighting

CSD challenges developer's claims on water

The Community Services District board let a proposed DUI enforcement policy die for lack of a second to a motion Wednesday, received the annual Security Department report and heard General Manager Ed Crouse deliver a history of the district's water treatment operations. Crouse provided perspective on negotiations for expanding the water treatment plant and challenged Murieta Gardens developer John Sullivan’s claims that his project is entitled to water.
