RMA survey on cable operation is in the mail

Check your mailbox: The Rancho Murieta Association has sent members a mailing for an advisory vote on making basic cable TV service voluntary.  It also includes reasons why the costs have to remain part of members' monthly dues.

The mailing is the result of a petition drive conducted last fall by critics of the RMA cable operation. The petition requested the board "to take whatever measures necessary" to make basic cable TV service voluntary, and it called for an advisory vote of the membership on the issue. CSD revises GM's contract, allowing for less costly termination

[Corrected Oct. 23] The Community Services District board took the unusual step of discussing an employee's contract -- in this case, the general manager's -- in open session Wednesday.

The board also fielded a complaint about the taste of the community's drinking water, received a report that wastewater carryover storage is a thing of the past, and approved funding for a $100,000 environmental project that represents half of a penalty levied against the district by a regulatory agency. 'Working With Graphics' computer class

The Rancho Murieta Association hosts "Working with Graphics – Using Microsoft Word," a three-session computer class taught by resident Lynn Baugher at the RMA Building, starting Oct. 22, from 1:30 to 4 p.m.

The second session is Oct. 25, from 2:30 to 5 p.m., and the third is Oct. 29 from 9 to 11:30 a.m. There is a $10 charge for the 75-page manual.

RM.com forced offline by spam

A spammer's takeover of RanchoMurieta.com's e-mail forced the site offline for about three hours Friday afternoon. The site's hosting company, WingSix, said the server was being used to send a flood of spam, impacting service for the company's other customers. RMA confirms what many know -- cable problems are back

It's baaaack. The Rancho Murieta Association on Wednesday confirmed what many residents on the North already know -- the cable problem that was thought to be fixed last week is still with us.

Wednesday afternoon, RMA employees hand-delivered notices to residents in the area of Puerto and Venado drives saying the problem returned over the weekend and the association was continuing to work on it.

After RMA General Manager David Stiffler said Friday that a faulty piece of cable located on Venado Drive had been fixed to solve the problem, North residents responded with forum posts and story comments at RanchoMurieta.com saying they were still experiencing cable difficulties.
