Rollover accident prompts discussion at RMA meeting

[Full story published April 23] Last week's rollover vehicle accident on Colbert Drive prompted comments at the Rancho Murieta Association board meeting Tuesday about revisiting last year's board vote against having the state Motor Vehicle Code enforced on the private streets of the community. The board also acted on matters concerning cable TV.

Car overturns on Colbert Drive

This car failed to negotiate a turn on Colbert Drive and wound up on its roof at about 6 p.m. Wednesday. Witnesses told Security the driver got out of the car and left the scene. Security reported the vehicle is registered to a resident on Colbert Drive, but no one answered at the home when Security went knocking. The California Highway Patrol took a report and towed the vehicle, a Honda. On Thursday, a CHP spokesperson said the CHP did not cite the driver or investigate.  (Photo special to RM.com. Driver suffers minor injuries in one-car accident on Highway 16

Three-car accident near North Gate

[Updated Sept. 8] A three-car accident on Jackson Road between Rancho Murieta's North and South gates left one person dead and two seriously injured and tied up traffic in both directions for 3 1/2 hours Saturday. Murietan Patti Hamel removes items from a heavily damaged Volkswagen Jetta Thursday after a GMC Yukon driven by a 68-year-old Rancho Murieta woman went off the road at Cosumnes River Elementary School and hit the parked car.  Hamel, who has two children at the school, was working as a volunteer in a kindergarten classroom when the accident occurred about 12:30 p.m. about 100 feet east of the school's exit.  Read more » about Car crash near Cosumnes Elementary

Driver wasn't injured

A Murieta teenager was uninjured Thursday morning when the Toyota Corolla he was driving went off the road and crashed in an area of rocks and oak trees next to a home in the 6800 block of Terreno Drive. The 17-year-old said he lost control of the car after he became ill and had to vomit. He was the sole occupant of the sedan, which sustained extensive damage when it hit a large boulder. "It could have been a lot worse," remarked Security Sgt. Jim Bieg as the car was towed away.
