Hundreds of parents, grandparents and children turned out Saturday to enjoy the Kiwanis Club’s annual Easter Egg Hunt and family picnic event at Stonehouse Park. In addition to three age-specific egg hunts, with thousands of treat-filled plastic eggs, there were other activities just made for a warm spring day – a petting zoo, a visit from the Sheriff’s Department Canine Unit, balloon and face art, cookie decorating, eating cotton candy and more. Little League sets celebration of new season

Cosumnes River Little League says its opening day celebration, rained out twice this month, will become a mid-season celebration on April 22. There will be a parade, starting at 12:45 p.m. at Murieta Parkway and the first Guadalupe Drive and proceeding over Guadalupe to Pera Drive, Escuela Drive and arriving at Stonehouse Park for the opening ceremony. Easter Bunny will hop by on Saturday

Easter Egg HuntThe Easter Bunny visits Rancho Murieta Saturday, when the Kiwanis Club holds its annual egg hunt and family picnic event at Stonehouse Park from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., rain or shine. The schedule for the egg hunt is ages 2-4 at 11:40 a.m., ages 5-7 at noon, and ages 8-10 at 12:20 p.m. Activities include the Sheriff’s Department Canine Unit demonstration, a petting zoo, face art and tattoos, cookie decorating, a fire equipment display, and giant bubbles. The Murieta Dance Company will perform at 12:30 p.m. Admission to the egg hunt is free, and tickets may be purchased for food and other activities. Frozen yogurt, popcorn and drinks will be available for purchase. Families are encouraged to bring a picnic and spend the afternoon at the park when the event is over. Little League cancels Saturday's opening day

Given the weather forecast and soggy fields, Cosumnes River Little League has canceled Saturday’s opening day parade and the day’s games – the second rainout of 2018’s opening day. New playground equipment gets a workout

Clementia ParkRancho Murieta moms and their kids have discovered that equipment installation is complete at the Stonehouse and Clementia playgrounds. Monday afternoon at Stonehouse, above, a group of moms sat and chatted while the kids worked off some energy giving each other rides on the spinning thingie. Down at Clementia, right, Marjorie Salo turned the home-schooling day to P.E., and Jax, 8; Jonah, 11, and Joy, 13, gave the equipment there a good workout. Last November, the Rancho Murieta Association decided to spend $116,000 for the equipment. Work, which began last month, was promised for completion in March. (Click photos for larger images.) The Rotary Club Passport One of District 5180 (Sacramento) once again is accepting applications from Rancho Murieta teens to attend its RYLA Summer Camp program. Work is under way at Clementia Park, where the Rancho Murieta Association poured concrete this week in advance of installing new playground equipment. And starting Monday, the tot lot and playground at Stonehouse Park will be closed for up to three weeks as new playground equipment is installed there. Family's third son earns Eagle honors

Fourteen-year-old Aidan Prouty continued a family tradition Sunday when he became an Eagle Scout in a gathering of family and friends at the Rancho Murieta Association Building. Here, his stepfather, Greg Pryor, puts the Eagle scarf on Aidan and then hoists him for a hug. Pumpkin sales begin Saturday and Sunday

It’s the pumpkin time of year, which means Boy Scout Troop 633 is selling pumpkins on Murieta Drive, in front of the new hotel, across from Murieta Plaza. They’ll be there Saturday and Sunday and Oct. 21 and 22 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. All proceeds benefit troop activities.
