Spray park is back for triple-digit days

The Rancho Murieta Association announced Thursday that the Summerfest Spray Park is operational -- for now. The RMA offered hope that the problem, which has been pushed back to the manufacturer and installer, may have a permanent fix on the horizon.

A group of boys were the first ones through the door at the RMA Thursday morning for a chance to select and decorate a hat for the July 4 hat contest sponsored by Kiwanis and Plaza Foods. The contest will take place at the July 4 Kiwanis breakfast at the Gazebo. The trophy, at right, with winner's name, will have an honored spot in the Plaza Foods deli section. It costs $2 to enter the contest (or three for $5 for a family). There's one more workshop -- 2 p.m. June 25 at the RMA Building. There's more info here. Problems once again close spray park

The Rancho Murieta Association says the Summerfest Spray Park is out of commission once again. Repairs will be attempted Tuesday. The park, at Riverview Park on the South, opened for the season May 30 and was closed almost immediately because the water shutoff mechanism wasn't working properly and was wasting a lot of water. Saturday's "Bookmobile Summer Reading Kickoff" at the Gazebo featured face painting. Here, a painter who gave her name (and business card) as Fairy Blossom draws the rapt attention of the pre-teen, pre-makeup set, each decked out in an elaborate paint job of her own. There was ice cream for the kids, and a magician was due later. If you've never visited, the Bookmobile stops in Murieta Village every Wednesday from 9 a.m. to noon. Many Murietans swear by it. Spray park is back in operation

Just in time for next week's predicted heat wave, the Rancho Murieta Association says the Summerfest Spray Park in Riverview Park is back in operation.  The RMA had been working on the problem for the past week, and Friday afternoon the contractor for the job came out and made repairs. The park's hours over the weekend will be noon to 6 p.m. Starting Monday the hours will shift to 1 to 6 p.m. Read more » about Spray park is back in operation

Honoring Murieta's newest Eagle Scout

Dozens of friends, family members and fellow Scouts -- not to mention dad Adam and mom Shelli -- gathered at the RMA Building Sunday afternoon to honor new Eagle Scout Mark Harris of Rancho Murieta Troop 633. His project was the construction of the new fire pit at Lake Calero, a pit used every Memorial Day for the flag retirement ceremony. Mark will be a freshman at Pleasant Grove High next school year. The Summerfest Spray Park opened for the summer Saturday at Riverview Park, and it was well timed, as temperatures reached the 90s. The opening was marked with free hot dogs, chips, snow cones and cotton candy, sponsored by the Rancho Murieta Association and Summerfest, and prepared and served by RMA staff and directors. Scouts mark Memorial Day by retiring flags

For the 11th Memorial Day, scouts from Troop 633 gathered Monday evening to retire worn U.S. flags, ceremoniously feeding the flags into flames at the edge of Lake Calero.  Scout leaders spoke of the flag's place in American history as piper Chuck Jamison played traditional bagpipe numbers and other songs. Annual flag retirement ceremony is Monday

Members of Boy Scout Troop 633 will retire worn and tattered U.S. Flags on Monday at Lake Calero starting at 6:30 p.m. This is the 11th annual Memorial Day flag retirement conducted by Troop 633, which is sponsored by the local Kiwanis. Piper Chuck Jamison will accompany the retirement ceremony. You can drop your worn and unusable flags at the Business Center or Ace Hardware in Murieta Plaza.
