Miss America pays a visit to the Country Club

The Children’s Miracle Network golf tournament Friday at the Country Club had quite a bit of stardust. Miss America 2015, Kira Kazantsev, was on hand, here holding a meet and greet with dozens of California beauty contestants. Kazantsev, who competed for Miss America as Miss New York, participated Friday to raise funds for the Children’s Miracle Network and UC Davis Children’s Hospital. Click for more photos. Country Club GM is leaving job

The Country Club notified members Tuesday that Arnie Billingsley, the general manager, is leaving the position with the turn of the year.  Until the job is filled, Bill Armstrong, who has served as chair of the board's Finance Committee, will be the acting general manager.

The email from board President Vince Lepera said the club will search "broadly for the most highly qualified and experienced candidates our budget can afford."  It could take up to six months, the note said. Read more » about Country Club GM is leaving job

Every 35 years, the Country Club throws a dinner on the Yellow Bridge, and Saturday night was this generation’s turn.  The menu included quail from Dixon, sturgeon from Passmore Ranch in Sloughhouse, and game hen and lamb from elsewhere in California.  Dinner started at sundown, followed by dancing, which had the century-old bridge rocking --  literally.  The first Yellow Bridge dinner marked the opening of the South Course in September 1979.  As for the view after dark... Swarm of official vehicles at Country Club

No, it wasn't a fire, just a golf tournament that brought fire and police vehicles -- and Metro Fire's Copter 2 -- to the Country Club Friday morning.  The tournament benefitted the Sacramento Metro Public Safety Foundation, which helps community development projects of regional police, fire and rescue agencies.
