Country Club names new general manager

Rancho Murieta Country Club has replaced Stan Korich as general manager, the club announced Friday. He’ll be succeeded by Arnie Billingsley, who served as the club’s director of golf in the 1980s and has worked in the golf business for four decades. Country Club's Vegas event Saturday is open to the community

The Country Club invites all Rancho Murieta residents to try their luck at the Viva Las Vegas Casino Night Saturday from 7 to 10:30 p.m.  In addition to the games, there will be music and dancing to Vivian Lee in the "Cabaret," as well as hors d'oeuvres and a carving station and pasta station.  Attendees have a chance to win the door prize, a seven-night stay at a Grand Mayan Resort.

Among the gaming prizes are a holiday party and stay at the Club Donatello in San Francisco, two nights at the Carson Valley Inn, including two rounds of golf at Genoa Lakes and a three-night stay in Santa Cruz.

Goodbye as Country Club president

Vince Lepera

Country Club President Vince Lepera was congratulated by Pat Lytle and others Thursday night after the club's annual meeting and election. Lepera, who leaves the board after serving as its president for five of his six years on the board, discussed the financial challenges the club is facing and how they're being met, as well as good times like the club's successful 40th anniversary celebration this month and a 2008 big-band music event evoking the sound and spirit of 1940s wartime America. An emotional Lepera told the audience of about 50 club members, "I want to thank everybody for allowing me to do this. I've given it my best shot." Singer/songwriter Jaime Kyle took the stage at the Country Club driving range Sunday evening to open the concert that concluded the club's gala 40th anniversary celebration. Headliner Pablo Cruise played under a full moon, and a huge video screen gave the audience an up-close and personal view of the musicians.

Italian Festival brought Italian style to Lake Clementia Sunday afternoon, and balmy weather made it the perfect day to have a water ice, watch some bocce ball, and enjoy al fresco dining. Tom Lewandowski shatters a pane of glass as he competes with nine other golfers in a contest of skills Saturday at the Country Club driving range. The event kicked off a two-day celebration of the North Course’s 40th anniversary.  Tom Kees of the “Golf & Grapes Guys Radio Show” on KFBK won the competition, although Murietan Brittany Smith, who recently turned pro, led until the final round, when golfers wagered their scores on whether they could break the glass with one shot. A big weekend: Trash and Treasure, Club party and Italian Festival

It's the best weather for the best weekend of events in Rancho Murieta. It starts Saturday with the Optimist Club's Trash and Treasure event and the Country Club's two-day 40th anniversary celebration. On Sunday, the Italian Festival takes center stage at Lake Clementia Amphitheater, as the celebration continues at the Country Club with the Pablo Cruise concert and other events.
