Six candidates are running for three Country Club board seats

There are six candidates running for three positions on the Rancho Murieta Country Club board of directors, the club announced Thursday. The candidates are Kent Casey, Claudia Foutz, Vince Lepera, Chris Pasek, Mike Valdez and Desmond Wosser.

Lepera, the president of the club, is seeking reelection. Valdez was appointed to Paul Davis’ seat when the Davis family moved from the area. John O’Brien is not seeking reelection.

Three seats on the nine-member board are up for election every year. The term is three years.

CSD's water-storage requirements leave golf courses thirsty

When the storage in the wastewater treatment plant ponds dropped below 100 acre-feet last October, the announcement was greeted with applause from board members, staff and spectators at the Rancho Murieta Community Services District board meeting. It had taken four years and cost the CSD $200,000 in fines and thousands more to dispose of stored wastewater to meet a requirement set by the Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board. Komen tournament seeks donations, volunteers

Rancho Murieta Country Club members are seeking help for the 10th annual tournament benefitting the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Last year the club event raised over $50,000 for the cause, with 75 percent of the proceeds going to local programs and 25 percent to the national foundation.

This year's "Tee Up Fore a Cure" tournament will be held Sunday, Oct. 12, at the club. Tournament organizers are now seeking silent auction donations and volunteers. To volunteer or to donate, contact Leon Sobon at 354-0477 or Pat Lytle at 354-1231.

It seemed as if the whole Rancho Murieta Country Club headed to the club Wednesday evening to celebrate Don Thames as he goes off to compete in the U.S. Senior Open next week in Colorado. Country Club throws party for golfer headed to U.S. Senior Open

The Country Club is throwing a send-off party for Don Thames as he leaves for the U.S. Senior Open July 28-Aug. 3 in Colorado. The party, open to club members, begins 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Terrace Lounge. The club is hosting complimentary draft beer and hors d'oeuvres as well as raffle prizes. Six weeks of work begins on Bass Lake drainage diversion

The pipes -- with diameters as big as 42 inches -- will carry water away from Bass Lake.

Massive pipes were trucked to Bass Lake Monday as the long-awaited drainage diversion project gets underway this week. A busy day at the Country Club

It was a festival both outside and inside the Country Club Saturday. In the clubhouse, local artists offered handmade jewelry, glass, ceramics, handbags and paintings for purchase at the Murieta Spring Arts Festival. At the driving range, golfers made their way along a row of colorful tents and selected clubs from a variety of manufacturers for a trial run. Saturday evening a tribute to Duke Ellington was scheduled at the club's Jazz Supper Club for members and their guests.
