Mike Martel

Mapping crime incidents could help discern patterns and suggest security priorities, CSD Director Mike Martel told the community's Joint Security Committee.

The idea of mapping crime incidents in the community to highlight areas that need attention was brought to the Joint Security Committee at its meeting Friday.  “I hate that we just report what (crime) happened, and there’s no pre-thought or prevention on what we’re going to do,” said Community Services District Director Mike Martel, a member of the committee. A neighbor broke up a possible car burglary Saturday afternoon on Puerto Drive, Security reported Sunday.

A resident told Security that an unknown woman stopped at a neighbor’s car, parked in the driveway, about 1 p.m. Saturday and tried the handle.  Security said he described the woman as about 20 years old, African-American, wearing a light blue shirt and carrying a bright yellow bag.

The neighbor who saw the woman said he came out of his garage and startled her, and she fled into nearby bushes, Security reported.  Security and sheriff’s deputies responded to a call and looked for the woman.
