SMUD cleans up damage from stolen crane

SMUD crews worked on Jackson Road near Davis Ranch Thursday afternoon to repair damage caused by a stolen construction crane around 1 a.m. The crane snapped utility poles and tree limbs and took out overhead traffic signals between Grantline and Dillard roads before California Highway Patrol officers apprehended the driver. The incident left Rancho Murieta without power for several hours overnight and shut down Jackson Road for a time. Security discusses vehicle citations and rattlesnakes

Deputies respond to erroneous report of gunshots

Security and deputies responded about 3:40 p.m. Tuesday after a report that two gunshots had been heard at the Villas in Rancho Murieta North, according to CSD Security.  It was later determined that the noise was toy noisemakers, Security reported later.  A red truck was reportedly seen leaving the area, and soon after sheriff's patrol cars had surrounded a red truck at the gas pumps at the Country Store at Jackson Road and the North Gate. Presents taken in burglary on Rio Oso Drive

A home was burglarized at midday Thursday on Rio Oso Drive, Rancho Murieta Security reported. Property taken included two wrapped Christmas presents containing perfume and a computer dictation system. Two bottles of white wine were also taken. Security responds to report of prowler

Security responded to Rio Circle around 9:45 p.m. Saturday after a call from a pre-teen boy who said he was home alone and he believed there was a prowler outside.  The area was checked -- no one was found -- but young people in a golf cart were causing a commotion on the street.  That prompted Security to bring a second patrol car to the area.  The boy who made the original call was placed under adult supervision until his parents returned, Security said. Boys report being approached by stranger in car

Two 13-year-old boys say they were approached in Rancho Murieta South by a male stranger who asked if they wanted a ride in his car and offered them candy to get in.  Instead, Security says, the boys ran and hid until the car drove off and then went home and told their parents. Emergency vehicles at South Gate follow assault on firefighter

The deployment of sheriff’s, fire and Security vehicles at Rancho Murieta’s South Gate late Saturday morning was part of the arrest of a Rancho Murieta man who assaulted a firefighter at Station 59, officials said.

Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District Chief Charles Jenkins said “a gentleman with emotional issues” was kicking at the door of Station 59, across from the North Gate, and then assaulted a firefighter who responded.  The man was arrested and charged with vandalism and assault, Jenkins said.
