Greens Park in South gets official opening

Surrounded by Rancho Murieta Association, Community Services District and development representatives, Chloe Garcia, 12, wields the scissors and officially opens the Greens Park off Jigger Court on the South Tuesday afternoon. Not that the park needed an official opening. There were already three dozen parents and kids playing on equipment, sitting at tables and just running around. (See an aerial photo of the park.) After years of discussion, the three-acre park, surrounded by 18 acres of wetlands preserve, was finally funded and built this year. (Click photo for larger image.) Street work on Murieta Drive Wednesday

Expect delays Wednesday if you head over to Murieta Plaza, Murieta Village or the Airport. Murieta Drive will be reduced to one lane of traffic throughout the day, with a flagman helping direct traffic through the single lane. The Rancho Murieta Association indicated its disinterest in creating a new committee to come up with a trails map for the community, as the Community Services District suggested last month. Carol Anderson Ward and John Sullivan – longtime Murietans, Country Club members and more recently North developers and owners of the club’s land – say club officials are promoting a fiction in this month’s election when they give the impression there are ongoing talks with Bob Husband about the possible purchase of the club.
